Italy: Building the Agentic State
15.04.2026
The Agentic State is entering national digital agendas.
In April 2026, Mario Nobile, contributor to The Agentic State vision paper and Director General of AgID — Italy’s Agency for Digital Italy — publicly called for the public administration to simplify, disintermediate, and build a “Stato agentico”, an Agentic State.
This is a state that organises itself around citizens’ life events and acts proactively, rather than waiting to be asked. With 42 million digital identities already in circulation, and strong payment and public design rails, Italy has solid foundations to move quickly in this direction.

Italy joins a growing group of governments explicitly working toward an Agentic State — see also Ukraine’s implementation roadmap.
